Anguree living Art

Sadly it is Anguree here with her last guest share.. oh what amazing inspiration she has provided us all!  Over to Anguree....

For this layout I used the silver leaf, washi tape and the gorgeous silk paint to create a background. Being limited to only a few embellishments can be quite a challenge whether you are new at scrapbooking, or have been doing it for years. I guess it's almost harder when you have been spoilt and  had the opportunity to gather (or is that hoard? :) ) so many bits and pieces over the years. As result,  having to go to a retreat or crop where you only have the essential tools can be a quite difficult. The truth is that this kit alone, gives you plenty to work with. You'd be amazed at what you can do using only paint and everyday accessories.  So for my last layout I chose not to use any dies or even the embellishments in the pack. Tips for creating this layout:
  • Use your sewing machine to add some random stitching to create texture.
  • Need a bit more bling? Grab some Al foil from your kitchen and adhere it to scrap pieces of cardstock to mat your photos.
  • Use a dry paintbrush to white out sections of your layout when you are using dark backgrounds.
  • Google inspirational quotes to use for your journaling.
  • Quotes can be quite handy to spark up your mojo . (I was a bit stuck at what I was going to create for my third layout, but looked up some art quotes remembering that I have this stencil. –Some of you may have received this one in one of the earlier kits.)  I instantly knew what I wanted to do as soon as I found this quote. So yeah, Google is your friend and the elusive mojo is closer than you may realise. Last but not least, I have to mention that this layout was partly inspired by the lovely Fiona's layout in the latest Scrapbooking Memories Magazine
    :)

Well it's been loads of fun hanging out with you. All the best for the future and I hope you have fun playing. Cheers  xxx

Grungy Girl layout

Hello Scrappy Chat lovelies! Fiona here with you to share my second project with the "Rough and Ready" kit. I was so inspired by our Guest Designer Amanda Hall and her tutorial on using big photos on your layouts that I decided to give it a go.

I had this beautiful photo of my daughter that I knew would work perfectly and even though I was using Amanda's idea, I wanted to make sure I made it in my style, so I decided to add my mixed media techniques as I normally would.

Stamping, spraying, paint flicking ...... all the awesome mixed media things I like to add to my projects. But as we all know, MM is a very messy thing to work with and can often get in the way of the "clean" parts of our design, so I decided to show you all how to "MASK" your work and still be able to add HEAPS of MM without ruining the overall clean effect.

Spraying in particular, can be very invasive. So masking stencils before spraying is a must!

Sometimes stamping with a background stamp is too much. You may just want a small section of the stamp. I will share with you how I mask my stamps to only stamp exactly what I want!

For a full technique sheet on how I created this layout, check out how to become a Scrappy Chat member below.

Thank you for dropping by.

Divine share by Anguree

Hello again Scrappy Chatters It's Anguree joining you again for another layout from the Rough and Ready kit. Today I'm going to share a technique I've been wanting to try for quite some time. Those of  you who know Stephanie Papin's work, will know that this layout was inspired by her. She is definitely on my favourite scrappers list, so do check out her blog HERE  This inspired the overall feel of the layout.

I'm going to share a fun technique with the washi tape in the kit.

Create a flower from your washi tape following the following instructions: There are many ways to create washi roses, but I really liked this technique by Sweettutorials, I found  on You Tube. Here's the link to see more
Cut approximately 12 inches of washi tape and adhere to a table, tucking in the ends so it sticks to the surface. Add another piece on the sticky side, and try to keep it as straight as possible.

Hold a small piece in your hand and fold the washi towards you.

Continue folding the washi over on the folds and roll it into the piece under your thumb, as you do so, to create the petals. The closer to the center, the closer the folds were be together, the further from the center, the more space there will be between them.

I finished folding and rolling and stuck it all down using a sticky glue dot, but you can also use hot glue if you choose.
If this is method is too fiddly for you, just adhere the washi tape as shown above, with one exception: Leave a small sticky strip on the washi tape at the bottom. Approximately 2-3mm.

Then roll the  washi tape in a tight roll, using the thin sticky strip to keep it together. Pinch the bottom as you roll and loosen up the top once finished rolling. Again, secure at the bottom, using a glue dot.

Adhere your flower to the layout.
Cut your journaling words and adhere with double sided foam.
You are done. I hope you have learnt some fun techniques that you are willing to try yourself.
Till next time, have a happy scrappy time. xxx
Cheers Anguree

Grungy Fun with Guest Designer Anguree Jansen Van Rensburg

Welcome to our Guest Designer Anguree Jansen Van Rensberg!  She has created some amazing layouts with our current kit and she is here to share the first of her creations!  But first... here is a little about this talented chic.

Hello, my name is Anguree, and I live in tropical Darwin, Northern Territory (NT) Australia. I am married to an amazing guy and have no children except for a very spoiled Chocolate Labrador. I was introduced into Scrapbooking somewhere between 2004 and 2005 and have been addicted ever since. I guess I can be described as a true Scrap-A-Holic.

I generally scrap 12x12 pages, but also love to make cards. Over the years my scrapbooking style has changed from almost graphic to mixed media collage. My style vary from grungy to shabby but I dare say no style is off limits. Over the years I've learnt not to get too tied up in what exactly my style is or should be, but rather to enjoy the process of creating. I love to experiment and try new products, mediums, techniques and all the little discoveries along the road.

I have been very lucky and blessed to have been published in Scrapbook Creations Magazine and more recently in Scrapbooking Memories Magazine.

You can find me on my blog, Anguree's Scrap Yard at:

Hello Scrappy Chatters I am super excited to pop in this month. I got to play with the Rough and Ready kit and oh boy, it is  jam packed with gorgeous paper and yummyness. Whether you are a 7 Dots fan, or not, I'm sure you'd agree that these double sided papers are just gorgeous. Both sides are equally beautiful, which makes it quite tricky to decide which side to use. I just wanted to use it all, but eventually made my mind up. First up, I could not resist using the silk paint and foil, so I used it to create a rustic layout of my cousin riding on a dirt track. (You gotta love the boys and their toys.)

Now grab a cuppa and have a look how I've done it:

Cut approximately 1/2 a inch on 2 sides of your background paper so you can mat the entire layout on a spare piece of cardstock when you are done.

Cover your background paper with a layer of clear gesso. ( I used  the Finnabair range by Prima, but you can use any other brand you may have in your stash). The gesso will  prepare your cardstock and allow you to add more layers of paint and ink.

Once this is dry, spread some of the Silk paint through any stencil to create some texture on your page. You will note this paint is not only gorgeous, but quite thick, which makes it great for stenciling.

For the next step I mixed some Walnut Stain Distress Re-inker with water in a mister bottle. I then sprayed it onto my background and allowed it to drip. (It then occurred to me, that not everyone will have  a brown reinker, so I visited my kitchen and found some coffee. I mixed about two teaspoons of instant coffee with a tiny amount of hot water to create my own "ink".  I then added this to the background as well. To tell you the truth, I actually loved the coffee colour more because of the beautiful warm brown it leaves on the paper. My tip ito you: remember to look in your kitchen next time you run out of craft supplies. You will find that it can be quite a treasure trove for your scrapbooking needs.)

Once this is dry, stamp the background using a script stamp and brown Archival Ink. Archival ink is water resistant, so it will not flow, should you later decide to add more ink or coffee.

(*You may note that the final photo and orientation of the layout is different from what I have used in my steps. I have changed my mind midway during the creative process and for me this is quite normal. Some would say I do things a little back to front as I sometime choose my photo to suit the paper or background, rather than the other way around. However, we are all different, so whatever you choose to do, is good. The only requirement is that you enjoy what you do.)

Add some black gesso through a stencil to add more detail and texture. Again you can use any texture stencil you may have already.

Follow  Heather's instructions in the video to add foil leaf to the background, using a stencil. Myne turned out a little  rustic, but I'd say it suited the layout.
Add more coffee, especially on the foil, to give it a golden brown tint. You will need to dry this parts with a heat gun. Be patient, moving the coffee over the foil as it dries in pools.

Paint the white piece of cardstock with black gesso and put it aside to dry.
Add some soft gel to the stenciled and foiled parts. Then add some black cotton on top of the glued areas.
Once the now black cardstock is dry, cut the piece in half.  Firstly cut 2 pieces from one of the halves to mat your photo. You don't need to use 2 full rectangular mats, one rectangle and a L-shaped piece is plenty for matting.
Use the bit that is left to cut some shapes to matt your photo. I used the cogs die from Spellbinders . The other half of the paper needs to be placed back in the it to use for one of your other layouts.

Position the cogs around the photo and decide which of the cogs you want to to paint with the silk and and an additional colour paint. ( I  painted some others with Viva Gold 3D paint, but you can use whatever you have.)

Distress the edges of your photo and ink with Distress ink. Also distress the photo mat and add some paint on the edges of the mat. Let dry.
Mat your photo.
Add Washi tape to the L-shape so you can tuck it under your main photo mat.
Layer the cogs around the photo by raising the cogs using some double sided foam.

Paint the buttons in the kit with black gesso and let it dry. Adhere to some of the cogs, to add more detail. (I have somehow managed to break mine, accidently, but you can just hide half of yours under the photo.)
Put some additional cogs in the bottom corner of your layout to balance your page.
Create a title and subtitle on your computer, using Microsoft Word in a different sizes to suit your layout.
Insert a text box and change the font colour to white. Now change the properties of the text box and fill it with black. Print.

Use a glue pen to write or fill in the white letters on your main title. Set aside to dry till just tacky. It's important that your glue dries tacky, for this technique to work, so try and touch it with your finger to test.

Now add some of the foil on top and burnish it lightly with your finger. Set aside to ensure it dries properly. Tip: Use a tray when you work with the foil, so you can catch all the spare pieces. Also, switch off the fan or airconditioner. (I didn't and  in my first attempt foil went everywhere... LOL However seeing that many of you have winter, while we are still enjoying beautiful hot days in the NT, I'm assuming you won't have this problem.)
Brush away the excess foil with a fine paintbrush or foam sponge. I found a paint brush works better especially in the fine curves of the letters.
Cover both the main title with the foil and subtitles with Glossy Accents and set aside to dry. This make take a few hours to dry properly. The glossy accents will dry clear and have an acrylic looking finish.

Once your titles are all dry, you can cut them out and adhere them to your layout, using glue, double sided tape or foam tape. (If you like, you could stick it on scrap pieces of cardstock for more stability before cutting it and adding foam tape or glue)

If your subtitle is like mine, half way over your corner cogs and halfway on the page, you can add a combination of tape and foam to raise it where it is lifted from the background page.

Cover the sides of a spare piece of cardstock with your wash tape by sticking half of it on the front and folding it over to the back of the paper. Mat your layout on this sheet.

Ta-da, you are done. I hope you enjoyed this with me and look forward to see what you create.

'Rough & Ready' with My Baby Girl!

Why 'Hello' my Scrappy Chat friends!
Kim here to share a layout created using the latest kit
'Rough and Ready'
from
Scrappy Chat Designs!

 {My Baby Girl}

For this layout I have used some of the gorgeous 7 Dots papers supplied in the kit, along with the
Silver Leaf.....(I had never used Silver Leaf before so let me just say I had it fluttering all over the place!)

I used one of the design elements on the 7 Dots paper (the feather's) to create additional embellishments using the Silver Leaf. I also used the Leaf as part of my title.
And let me just say....a little of the Silver Leaf goes quite along way!
And of course I used lots of layer's & machine stitching!!

I love the overall effect of the Silver Leaf and definitely learned a few things along the way!!

If your keen to learn some amazing techniques and great tips, from the all the designer's here at
Scrappy Chat Designs, why not check out how to become a member, below!
